Not how you want your holiday to end…

I broke my arm the other day.

We were coming to the end of our fantastic family holiday in Thailand, I took a big old tumble, and next thing I knew, I was in a hole, there was a deep gash down my leg and my arm was broken

Despite this absolutely not being the way anyone would choose to end their holiday, I’m thankful for several things:

1.    My family were with me, which meant that they could – quite literally – help me out of the hole

2.    The doctors who helped me in Thailand were great.  They patched me up, gave me 10 stitches in my leg and a temporary cast on my arm, which meant I could fly home.

Once I arrived home, I headed straight to A&E, and as you’d expect, was treated to a variety of checks and X-rays, as well as the alarming sight of three different orthopaedic doctors coming to see me.

Turns out it wasn’t a “normal” fracture, and complex surgery was needed.

I had the operation on Monday, and I’m pleased to say that it went well, but as you can expect, it’s likely to have quite an impact on the day job for a while!

A broken arm is a dentist’s worst nightmare, and practically speaking, it means no clinic dentistry for me for around two months, with a longer period until I’m up to full working capacity.

And that’s where the third thing I’m thankful for comes in – the fantastic team we have here at Brightside.

Over the years, we’ve grown a highly skilled team, and I know that they’ll continue to keep things running smoothly.

For patients who see me or are part way through treatment, please rest assured that your treatment will continue seamlessly – all our dentists are highly skilled and competent, and we’ll make sure you’re booked with someone best placed for your needs.

I’ll keep you updated on my recuperation – any tips from anyone who’s been through something like this before gratefully received!
